Inmate Work Program

I would like to start an Inmate Work Program to help with White County's annual budget by utilizing inmate labor within our county. This program would NOT take the jobs from county employees, but would work with the current county employees that can assist them in the current jobs and ease the burden of their work. We now have state inmates out of the Carlton H. Caldwell Probation Detention center picking up trash on the state roadways, but what about our county roads?  Deputies assigned to the Inmate Work Force Division would supervise inmate crews working throughout the county.  They would be transported each day to various work details and utilized to do the following:

Pick up trash along county roadways.

Cut grass and help maintain the exterior of county buildings and parks.

Clean the White County Sheriff's Office and Jail Facility.

The Inmate Work Force Division would utilize ONLY inmates incarcerated for non-violent charges.  The inmates assigned to the work force would be allowed to work on these outside work details, as these inmates are usually county sentenced or incarcerated for probation violations.

The Inmate Work Force Division will help beautify our county, while saving the White County Taxpayers money on an annual basis by the utilization of inmate labor.
