Protecting the Future of WHITE COUNTY:

SHERIFF TELLING OUR PARENTS AND PROMOTING EDUCATED DRIVERS

S.T.O.P.P.E.D. PROGRAM

Even though a parent may hand their keys to a

teenager, they still "hold" the keys to that teen's future.

The S.T.O.P.P.E.D. program is a voluntary parental notification system developed to help reduce the number of young drivers involved in motor vehicle accidents, which are the leading cause of death in the 15 to 20 year old age group. Younger drivers are particularly vulnerable to certain high-risk driving situations, such as driving while using a cell phone, driving at night, after having that "one beer", not taking the time to fasten their seatbelts, and with other teenage passengers.

By partnering with our sheriff's department, there is an easy way to help protect your future, your children's future, and my future.

Step 1: Parents will register with the White County Sheriff's Office any vehicle that will be operated by a driver 18 years old or younger.

Step 2: An identification decal will be issued and affixed to the lower left corner of the rear window of each registered vehicle identifying that registered vehicle as being part of the S.T.O.P.P.E.D. program.

Step 3: If for any reason the registered vehicle is stopped by a White County Sheriff officer while being operated by a driver 18 or younger, the officer will complete a notification card providing the following information:  time and location of the stop; the driver’s name and number of occupants; the reason for the stop, and if any tickets or warnings were issued.

Parents will be notified concerning these details to enable parents or guardians to enforce any parental rules associated with teenage driving privileges.
